milestones

I am just so thankful that Tristan's skin asthma hasn't recurred so far. He's got some dry skin patches on some areas but no flare ups has been happening *knock on wood*. His skin has probably been maturing as what his derma from the Manila has explained to me earlier.

He's now 2 years old and 2 months almost! And my, a very active little boy. He's an avid fan of Thomas the tank engine. He knows every character's name! He loves to sing and dance with Barney. He is so into the Mickey Mouse Club toon shows. He's now able to count from 1 to 12. haha! He can imitate songs and words....trying his best to sing them say them.

And most surprising is that he knows how to make lambing so he can get what he wants!...hmmm... you would think children are innocent but hey, they have their intersting ways on how to plan and get what they want!

I'm just so amazed on a child's development. One thing in life that brings so much joy is motherhood. It is that experience which can never ever be replicated again. And it is the time we share with our children, enjoying their growing up years, that is priceless...

We've been training Tristan to speak pure Tagalog/Filipino (even Pangasinan, my dialect). At home, our conversations are purely tagaolog. So if Tristan wants to eat he says "kain na Tristan". We don't want him to lose touch with those languages when he starts kindie or daycare. So he only learns english words whenever he watches english toons and educational programmes here in NZ. A friend of mine was regretful for not teaching his son tagalog. She says she's so hard up whenever she starts to discipline her son. My friend said: "Hirap na ko pagalitan anak ko! Nauubusan ako ng Ingles!".

I just wonder how Tristan will cope up when he starts school. I mean, I know that children are the most adjustable individuals be it socially, psychologically, environmentally, etc! but how? It's just so amazing how children will be able to differentiate languages. :-)

And they learn so fast! So fast that one of my friends' kid has that "Kiwi" accent na and he's just been here for like a couple of months! My cousin who grew up here even asked his older sis to translate what his dad is saying (in english to ha!)... Grabe, sana Tristan can still understand our "english accent" even if he grew up na with that accent! haha.

I just don't want Tristan to forget where he came from even if he's not born in the Philippines. I would like him to treasure his culture.
