Tristan’s 3rd Birthday celebration

7th July. We just had a little salu-salo. It’s a family event – me, P and T. I cooked pancit and baked chicken upon coming home from the office whilst P prepared the sushi. We bought a cake during our weekend grocery-ing, put on 3 little candles for Tristan to blow and decorated our dining set with balloons. Tristan helped out in asking his dad filling up the balloons he chose. He also re-stuck the candles into the cake. Actually, he loved doing this while waiting for Mum and Dad to prepare everything. By the time he blew the candles, the cake was full of holes. hehe!

We really had great time. It’s the first time Tristan celebrated his birthday in NZ. I guess it’s the intimacy of the moment which made it so memorable and easy. It’s the family celebrating.

9th July. We headed to Palmerston North. That’s where the real celebration is – with friends and families. Morning was spent driving around Auckland to pick-up things we have to buy for the party such as the 9.2L ice cream from this ice cream factory shop (so love their Movenpick selection of ice cream for a very cheap price!). We finally headed towards the motorway at around 1PM. Imagine the exhaustion for travelling 8 hours by land. I’m just relieved we arrived safely despite the horrendous weather.

10th July. More party stuff buying (party decors, lollies for kids, ingredients for the menu, etc.)

11th July. We had the place decorated that night. Apart from that, it’s the BIG night – cooking for the menu. Mum cooked and prepared most of the handa: pancit, beef stroganoff, embutido, roasted ham, macaroni salad, and latik! *whew* P made his famous and highly-requested spaghetti bolognaise and the little cakes. I of course is the kitchen hand. Lol.

12th July. The big day. We have to sleep 5 in the morning just to finish all the menu. By 7AM, I woke up and start to prepare for Tristan’s costume and everything else.


P and I decided to have a costume party. Tristan has his Superman costume. P made the invitation.

The kids really had a blast! Some of the older kids even showcased their “Michael Jackson moves” re moonwalking and all the MJ classic moves. It’s so cool to watch my friends’ kids able to do this.

It's great to have parties but we'll wait for another one when Tristan turns 7!
